Chapter Fifteen

Brooke went through a yoga routine in her living room, not wanting to skip out on the habit entirely, and she was already dressed for it, so she rolled her mat out in front of the fireplace and took her time, concentrating on her breathing.

When she closed her eyes and thought about Sharon’s hands on her arms, it sent a tingling sensation through her body. It shouldn’t have. It was entirely innocent, and Sharon had clearly been stressed out. But it still did something to Brooke.

It overshadowed that little bit of anxiety that bubbled up when Brooke realized that she was no longer anonymous here. Kelsey had more than likely told a few friends or had people looking out for her around town.

Brooke just didn’t want this to disrupt her time here. She’d happily meet Sharon’s niece, but she would do it in a controlled setting, not in the middle of the street where the whole town would see it.

Brooke rolled up her mat and thought about the best way to make that happen as she bent down to light a match and throw it on the newspapers and twigs she’d set up that morning. She stood, watching the flames catch and shoot up, wondering why she was even thinking about this.

In all the years that she’d been doing this, she’d never met privately with any of her fans. She’d heard enough horror stories from other artists about meet and greets gone wrong to put her off ever doing them despite Lauren’s continuous suggestions that she should.

So, why was she even thinking about this? And it was more than thinking, really. She wanted to do it.

Maybe, it was because the woman who owned the cafe… Beth. Yeah, that was her name. Maybe, it was because Beth hadn’t treated her any differently when she’d known all along who Brooke was.

It probably had something to do with Kelsey being Sharon’s niece too. As much as Brooke didn’t want to acknowledge that, she did, but it didn’t change her mind.

And then an idea popped into her head as she added a log to the fire. She picked up her phone to call Sharon, but then Brooke remembered that she’d still be busy at the yoga studio.

Tonight, Brooke could text her and run the idea by her.

Right now though, she wanted to get back to her work in progress, so she picked up her guitar and sat down on the couch, playing the now familiar melody as she sang the lyrics written in her notebook.
